OAU Senate Orders Students to Vacate Hostel, Approves New Resumption Date for 2017/2018 Academic Session

The Senate of the Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife, at its sitting today, Wednesday, 28th March, 2018, has endorsed the action, taken so far, by the University Management over the issue of students’ unauthorized occupation of the rooms in the halls of residence.

A release by the Public Relations Officer of the University, Mr. Abiodun Olarewaju, stated that the Professors, who frowned at the rate of moral decadence among the students, urged the Professor Eyitope Ogunbodede-led administration to use all lawful means to enforce obedience to the school rules and regulations, so that “our students will be found worthy in learning and character; therefore be qualified to obtain our degrees, certificates and diplomas.

Accordingly, the Senate has given the University Management the mandate to ask students, who are still resident in the halls, to vacate their apartments/rooms, latest by Friday, 30th March, 2018.

It also added that any student, who is still illegally occupying any room within the University halls of residence, would be viewed to have violated his/her matriculation oath, and such a student will be sanctioned appropriately.

In a related development, the Senate has approved the change in the resumption date for the new calendar of 2017/2018 academic session. The new students will now come into residence on Sunday,29th April, 2018, instead of 3rd April that was earlier announced.

This is to give enough time for proper repair and comprehensive renovation of all the halls of residence in order to make it more comfortable for the students.

Parents and Guardians are hereby enjoined to take note of the new date and prepare their children/wards for resumption accordingly.

Management and Students Of OAU Clash Over Hall Of Residence

Some students of Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife, engaged in a free for all fight with officials of security outfit of the institution who tried to forcefully eject them from one of the female hostels, Moremi Hall, on Wednesday evening.

It was gathered that the management of the university had directed the security operatives to go and eject students who were still in school and occupying rooms in the hostels, despite the fact that the institution is on holiday.

But it was gathered that effort of some officials of the security outfit to carry out the instruction was met with stiff resistance at the hall of residence by some students who opposed the forceful removal OAU

According to a source, this led to a clash and free for all fight between the students and officials of the security outfit.

It was gathered that the clash led to the arrest of some of the students who were arraigned in court on Thursday.

Adeyeye Olorunfemi, a student activist said, “The students forcefully evicted are those who are currently doing their SIWES and final year students who are still completing their clearance”

“Some students resisted these and they were arrested yesterday. These students slept at the Moore Police station and this morning they were charged to court located at Ajebamidele”

Confirming the incident, the school Public Relation Officer, Mr. Abiodun Olarenwaju said that student tenancy in the halls of residence came to an end the moment the session end.

According to him, the school had closed for the session since February, but the students have refused to go home. He said, “We are not forcefully ejecting the students.

They are illegal occupant. They paid for a session and they must leave so the university management can do the needful. That is to clean, repair and fumigate the halls of residence. The students are to vacate their residence after examination. The session has ended and they must leave.

At least one half month Mr. Olarenwaju also confirmed the arrest of student saying they were taken in for questioning to ascertain whether they are student or not.

BED SPACE ALLOCATION:

Fresh undergraduates and final year
students will apply for Bed Space Allocation placement directly on the eportal after
payment of appropriate fees, including
accommodation fee. Candidates will be
required to print 3 copies of Bed Space

Clearance Forms from the eportal which must be duly signed by the student and the Hall Warden. The forms will be administered as follows:

Students are required to keep one
Submit one copy to the Dean, Student
Affairs

Submit the third copy to the Hall Warden
to qualify him/her to OCCUPY the bed
space Please note that failure to submit
the Bed Space Clearance Forms as
stipulated automatically disqualifies the
Bed Space Allocation.

Apart from fresh undergraduate students,
final year students are also given priority in the allocation of bed spaces.

Obafemi Awolowo University New Student Registration, Screening and Allocation of Bed Spaces

This is to inform all who just gained admission into the Obafemi Awolowo University, (OAU) for the 2017/2018 academic session that Online
Registration, Screening Exercise and Bed Space Allocation Process for the 2017/2018
academic session has commenced.

The Registration, Screening and Bed Space Allocation guidelines has been made available below:

I.REQUIREMENTS FOR 2017/2018 REGISTRATION OF FRESHMEN

Candidates who have been offered admission should
upload their Academic Credentials and their Birth Certificate/Swom Declaration of Age.

Each candidate will be required to print and submit his/her online Clearance Certificate, as downloaded, to the Faculty Secretary.

They will also be required to present the
print- out of the certificate form, hard copies of Academic Credentials, Birth Certificate, JAMB Admission letter for further screening on resumption.

II. SCREENING OF FRESH STUDENTS

All credential screening will be done on-line. All newly admitted students are expected to complete their
credential screenings before they come to campus on April 3,2018 when the 2017/2018 Session will commence.

III. PROCEDURE FOR ACCESSING THE E-
PORTAL

Log on to the University Student
Information Portal eportal.oauife.edu.ng using your
Registration Number and the Password you used last on the portal.

Complete the following forms correctly on the ePortal http://eportal.oauife.edu.ng

IV. BED SPACE ALLOCATION

The procedure for Bed Space request for students is available on the eportal.
