JAMB 2018: Over 1.1 Million Candidates Scored Above 100/400

Prof. Is-haq Oloyede, Registrar, JAMB, disclosed
this when members of the Presidential Advisory
Committee Against Corruption (PACAC) led by its
Chairman, Prof. Itse Sagay, visited the board’s
headquarters in Abuja.

The Registrar said out of 1,840,225 candidates who
wrote the examination, only 800,000 had the five
credits ordinary level (O’ level) minimum
requirements.

He further revealed that “There are 767 tertiary higher
institutions in Nigeria and about 560,168 candidates
have been admitted. About 20 per cent of the
candidates are in SS2, they only took JAMB for
trials.”

The JAMB registrar said the collusion of parents in
examination malpractices remained a major challenge
for the Board.

According to him, most parents have
gone haywire in their desire to ensure their children
pass the examination at all cost. He expressed his
displeasure on how parents paid huge amount of
money into fraudulent account in order to pave way
for their wards.

JAMB On Removal of Some 2018 UTME Results From Its Portal

The Joint Admission Matriculation Board (JAMB) has finally spoken out on what was a supposed removal of results from the exam body's portal.




The Board’s Head of Media, Dr Fabian Benjamin disclosed this in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria, NAN, Monday in Abuja.

NAN reports that some candidates had earlier cried foul, following the removal of their released results from the website of the Board, after initially accessing it.

The candidates complained that the site displayed,

“You do not have any result yet” or “you did not write the examination,” after such results were earlier published.

According to Benjamin, the board may reschedule the examinations for some whose cases were exceptional but some results may have been withheld.

“Once you don’t see your result after a while it means it has been withheld.

"However, there are exceptions and the board intends to reschedule the examinations for those who fall in that category but they would be contacted before then,” he said.
He explained that the board was still working to release other results.

He also noted that the board would continually give an update to the general public on its latest developments as time goes on, especially if there are any changes in the system.

Benjamin also enjoined those who intend to change their choice of institutions before the 2018/19 admissions process begins, to visit the board’s site and follow the procedure as displayed.

He said the process had been ongoing and costs N2, 500 only and can only be processed online, just like every other process of the board.

JAMB Hints That Candidates Might Be Able to Write Exams from Homes in the Future

The Joint Admission and Matriculation Examination Board
(JAMB) through the spokesman, Dr. Fabian Benjamin, while
featuring on RockCity radio program, yesterday disclosed
that the results for the 2018 Unified Tertiary Matriculation
Examination (UTME) are ready.

In the same program, Dr, Benjamin also hinted that there are
plans for the examination to be written from candidates’
homes in future.
In his own words: “We are thinking of open book
examinations or allowing them write the examination from
their houses. Once we get the required technology, we can do
it.”

That’s all that has been said by JAMB about plans to enable
candidates write their exams from the convenience of their
homes. Hopefully, more information will be disclosed about
the feasibility of UTME taking a new shape in the near future.
